My admiration for the 6 yards beauty has been around ever since I was a kid, if not anything it has only grown over the years. I remember as a kid I would often wrap myself up in my grandma’s saree and would mostly trip and fall, but I never outgrew my obsession. My keen eye for textures, prints, colors and make has compelled me to stack up a collection of sarees in my wardrobe. Being an Indian that too from the south where sarees are the most adorned garment for a traditional set up like weddings or any festivities, my keen interest in them could only be an obvious outcome of that. This 6 yards of fabulous is a timeless trend, the one that will always be around for years to come. What’s interesting is that each saree has a story to tell, it’s woven with it’s unique history, tradition and culture of India. The delicate silk from the south to the colorful bandhinis made across the north, the wide golden borders of kanjeevaram, the chanderis inspired by the mughal palaces they all carry a story on them. We talk about sarees and it’s making with so much passion but we often forget the blouse, which is an equally important part of the attire as a whole. As far as I can remember my love for sarees has always been an addition to the stress of finding a decent tailor to stitch a perfectly fitting blouse.

Recently I was introduced to House of Blouse, a Bangalore start up venture by two beautiful ladies, Rachana and Roopa who share a great passion to be an answer to all our tailor woes. They realized that in today’s hectic busy world where one hates to commute in the traffic, making several trips to the local tailor was a real pain! Also, when the world’s being taken over by online shopping businesses, there should be an answer to this too. So, they came up with House of Blouse, a one stop online shop to designing your own blouse where you have the freedom of mentioning the minutest detail that you have in mind. House of Blouse has a damn cool style creator app which lets you design your blouse easily through a process of few steps. First, you select the fabric from their huge collection of various colorful fabrics from all over India. The next step is designing the blouse, selecting the pattern and mentioning the fit that you want. Now you’re wondering about the measurements, here you have two options, you can either ship one of your perfectly fitting blouse to them or you can mention your measurements in the boxes specified. They have a guide too incase you’re confused about taking your own measurements.

When I designed my blouse, the process took me exactly 20 mins but to select the fabric was a challenge considering the amazing choices they had. Apart from that the process is seamless and you will be done in no time. Also, you will receive your blouse in 15 days or in 7 if you choose express shipping and they ship internationally too! In desperate times, when you can’t wait for 15 or 7 days for the blouse to be ready, you can shop from their ‘ready to shop’ collection of readymade blouses too! It just can’t get better and more convenient than this. Oh Oh I almost forgot, once you’ve received your order and incase you’d like to make a few alterations, just send it back and HOB will make the changes for you for free! Also, in rare cases when the fit is completely off beat and there is no scope for changes, HOB will remake the blouse for you using the same design and fabric.

My blouse arrived exactly in the mentioned time frame and I was amazed that it fit so well despite not having explained myself repeatedly to the tailor. All the details I mentioned were taken into consideration and my creation on screen had come to life. I decided to go with this rich brocade for the fabric that had golden flowers woven on it. I was going in for something that’s apt for a grand event like a wedding. I decided to style it with this green uppada silk saree that I got from my recent trip to India. Make sure you choose a fabric that’s versatile and can be reused with other sarees too. Like this one for example can be worn with a white, beige, black, pink and several other color combinations of sarees, which is amazing!

Would you have imagined that there would come a day when designing a blouse without making several trips to the local tailor and stressing over the outcome will be a click away. It’s amazing how the creators of HOB have incorporated all that we look for in a perfect blouse with a great fit. Their uniqueness really lies in the tailoring, the fit and the neatly finished final product. Their blouse designs and patterns are also very trendy and they constantly add newer designs to make sure they are on top of the game. You must take a peek into their website I’m sure you’ll end up falling in love too!

I love to don sarees at parties or during any festival. But due to lack of time, often find it difficult to visit the tailor for the blouse. An online solution sounds really great! Will explore their site. Thanks a lot for the info… 🙂

It’s so funny how I practically learned how to tie a saree watching my grandmothers tying them. I used to wrap myself in blankets pretending they were saree… Hehe! I had an interesting childhood! In fact, I have an old saree from my late grandmother which she gave me in 2010. Every time I see the saree it reminds me of her because she just passed last year.
By the way, my jaw dropped when I saw the picture! That is such a perfect colour combo! So beautiful!
