Indian Summer with Raw Mango

March 3, 2017

It’s March already, which means it’s soon going to start blazing hot outside here in India and we can’t wait! When I think of summers in India, it brings back fond memories from childhood when the dawn of summer meant vacations. It was the best time for all of us as kids, although today vacations conveniently translate into exotic locations, back then visiting my grandparents’ house was the best of all. Their home not only accomadated all the nuisance displayed by a bunch of us (the cousins clan), it also provided space to a number of plants & trees grown by my granddad. Years ago as he laid the first stone to his house, he also planted several mango and coconut trees right in front of it and as time passed by they grew up to become huge fruit bearing structures. So, every summer along with grandma’s amazing recipes we also enjoyed the chilled homegrown coconut water and relished the sour raw mangoes. Indian summer has such a strong connection with raw mangoes or mangoes for that matter; it’s the first thing that comes to everyone’s mind as March approaches. So when I decided to talk about the brand Raw Mango with a backdrop of  summer, I couldn’t resist sharing this snippet.

With this post, I introduce to you a new section on my blog called ‘Brand Conversations’, wherein I talk about brands that I’ve personally tried-loved and you too can share your views/experiences with them in the comments section. Bringing together brands that put a lot of thought in curating a befitting outfit, not necessarily just the high end designer brands but also that carry contemporary styles that attract the masses too. I am such a huge fan of handloom textiles because of the sheer handiwork, immense effort and inspiration behind each piece! Raw Mango is one such handloom brand brought to you by  Sanjay Garg, the man behind it. He says the name ‘Raw Mango’ came to life because the sarees are handmade and go through several artisans hands in the process. This may result as slight variations in the weave/colors and Raw Mango is symbolic of the concept that beauty lies in imperfections. This imperfectly balanced palette is unmissable in the brand’s line of collection. What stands out for me apart from the minimalistic vibe is definitely the usage of bright colors. I also admire how they do away with the prim and proper structure of a saree on their models. The mis-matched combination of the saree & pallu or even the blouse to go along with it have such contrast in colors, patterns & prints, yet they come together looking absolutely refreshing! Sanjay Garg is also very keen on sharing the way a handloom saree is made, the time and effort dedicated on each saree is evident when you witness the final result.

It’s so wonderful to talk about a brand I’ve come to fall in love with, while wearing one of their sarees in my most favorite color! This bright yellow chanderi silk saree is undoubtedly one of my favorites and you will see me wearing it at every occasion possible. I particularly loved that the saree was plain, so one can experiment with colors and prints while choosing the blouse to go with it. The delicate zari bordering the entire saree and the way the fabric drapes on your body, is proof to the amazing make and design. To do some justice to the brand’s concept, I have used minimal make up and kept the pictures as raw as possible.

What better way to do summer than blending cotton and silk with pops of color? These sarees will be a hit at your summer weddings not just because of how beautiful they are but also because they’re so lightweight and easy to drape. Incase you’re thinking of putting together your saree collection then adding one Raw Mango saree to it is a must! I’ve mentioned below the online stores that carry Raw Mango collection, I’m sure you’ll find something you love!

You can find Raw Mango at Ogaan, Jaypore and Moonriver Store.

I hope you enjoyed reading this post, thanks for stopping by. Have an amazing weekend!

Love,

Swati

You look gorgeous in this sari and that color is perfect on you. South African summers also has a strong connection with fruit as well. Especially mangoes and bananas. Have an awesome summer.

    Hey Swati,

Your lede into this brought back a ton of summer memories that were awfully similar to yours – mangoes, coconuts, cousins, and family shenanigans. I went back to being a school kid in a jiffy. So thank you for that, and of course for shedding light on Chanderi silks, craftsmanship, and saris via a brand as delightful as Raw Mango.

Btw, did you go back to India for good?
